2 New Must-See Travel Websites for Event Planners

OK, we have come off a long weekend. This is not the time to challenge your brain with deep thoughts, so I am going for a fluff piece…. gotta love it.

Here are two new “Travel” websites that I think are cool enough to check out.

Hipmunk

OK, I am sorry but the name Hipmunk is the dumbest freaking thing I have ever heard. I almost passed on checking out this site simply based on the name. That would have been a shame because it is one cool customer. A travel site I like.

Hipmunk makes it easy to search for flights.

Yes, yes, I know, Expedia, Orbitz and Travelocity are not difficult, but they are cluttered and they try to please everyone by not only booking flights, they book hotels, planes, donkey rides, helicopter rides, limos, surf lessons, cars and I would not be surprised to see a “want a hooker while in Vegas” button popping up soon. Simply booking a flight has become a major pain in the ass.

Hipmunk makes it simple and simple is good. Go there and search for a flight. You will see what I mean.

Hipmunk Website for Meeting and Event Planners

Room 77

OK, Room 77, sounds like the name of a cool action or horror movie, but alas, it is not. Room 77 gives you the chance to get an actual rating on the rooms in hotels and we are not talking a generic rating, we are talking a rating on room 2306.

What Seat Guru did for air travel, Room 77 hopes to do for hotels.

Here is what their site says:

Your hotel stay begins and ends with your room. Yet when it comes to selecting a room, travelers are left with little transparency or control. We set out to change that uncertainty by creating the world’s first database of hotel rooms. With the belief that choice and transparency are key to improving travel experiences, Room 77 offers room recommendations matching your preferences. Along with that goal, here are three truths we recite every day:
Not all rooms are created equal.

Room 77 makes it easy to find the hotel room that’s right for you. We’ve mapped virtually every floor in a given hotel, so you can see for yourself how they’re laid out. Don’t like to be near the elevator? No problem. Prefer an ocean view? Got it. Explore a hotel with our maps and expert advice, from the comfort of your seat or the palm of your hand.

OK, not sure if it will soar as high as seatguru but check it out. I was surprised by how many hotels are in their database and the search results are cool.

Room 77 for meeting and event planners

For meeting and event planners, it makes sense, you can find the type of room that you like. I like to be close to an elevator or close to the ballroom so a have a shorter walk…. Other planners want to be far away from their attendees.

There you go! Hope everyone had a good weekend……now, get back to work…we have meetings and events to plan.
