Technology is great for meeting and event planners, the problem is, it is usually not ready for prime time right out of the box. When investing in new tech, make sure that you figure out what you need to make it stellar and do all of the things that you need it to do.
Take an iPad for example. Great, amazing piece of tech, but out of the box it is not really that business friendly. Add a Bluetooth keyboard and I am now ready to leave the laptop at home on short trips because now it is easy to type long(er) emails and docs.
The little things can take a good piece of technology and make it really great.
