A few years ago, I had the chance to work with Encore Creative on a couple of events that we had going at the Fairmont Scottsdale and at a couple of other venues. They are a hardworking, creative bunch with mad skills and great attitudes.
Yesterday, I was made aware of the tragic, heart-wrenching story of one of their own. I will let them tell the story because who am I except for another industry dude that Vance probably may have met one time while he was working an event.
I am a firm believer that any group, whether the event industry, steel workers, or the US Marines, should do what they can when something happens to someone in their fold. I don’t personally know Vance but I can only imagine what he is going through. His life was changed forever and if we can do something to help, we should.
It doesn’t only make us better as people, it makes us better as an industry.
Vance Carter is a stage hand for Encore Creative working with local set up and strikes. He has been a loyal and hard working employee of Encore for over 7 years.
On Sunday Aug 11, 2013 Vance’s younger brother was killed in a tragic car accident, and his mother was hospitalized with multiple fractures and broken bones. She has since been released. Additionally, Vance’s young son Devlyn was critically injured in the accident, and remains in ICU today, and will require additional surgery as time passes.
Vance has been unable to work during this traumatic process, and is looking at a reduced work load while Devlyn recovers.
The emotional burden of losing a younger brother, and having your son critically injured is an emotional trial in itself. However, the medical bills, funeral costs and associated recovery costs for his son will far exceed his ability to financially keep up.
We are asking friends and event industry associates to assist him in anyway they can through this process.
