Meeting Planner Review – The TRIPP LITE Mini Travel Power Strip

You are a meeting-planning monster. You kick ass in so many ways that Chuck Norris refuses to enter any hotel where you are staying. You can plan ten meetings, and nine special events and still have time to crank out your association’s 15,000-person conference without even breaking a sweat. That is… you can do all of this until someone comes in and throws event planner Kryptonite right at you. The one thing that can defeat the mightiest meeting superhero…

What is our Kryptonite? What can bring us to our knees in fear? What can stomp us into the ground like Godzilla running through an egg farm? Power outlets. The simple absence of power outlets. A hotel room or conference room with only one outlet means we cannot charge a phone, a tablet, a computer, power a hair dryer, and the registration printer all at the same time. This means the end of our little Justice League. No more will we save attendees from long registration lines, crappy banquet chicken, or delayed transportation. We will be doomed to walk the earth pariahs in our chosen field of work. You are now a mere mortal in those awesome meeting planner shoes.

Do NOT become a victim to the evil outlet menace. Really. Don’t. Scoot over to Amazon and grab yourself the TRIPP LITE SK120USB Mini Travel Surge 3 Outlet Dual 2.1 amp USB Port Charger for Tablet and Smartphones in 120V (no crap, that is actually the name of this little thing). Silly name but really easy to travel with the following specs.

  • 3 outlets for direct plug-in (Computer, hair dryer, and printer). One is on the face of the product, and two on the sides.
  • USB Chargers for the phone and the tablet… and these are the 2.1 amp USB outlets, the ones that charge quickly.
  • Surge suppression rating: 540 joules (I guess this is good; it sounds impressive to me).
  • Fold down plug, so it won’t dig into the crap you have in your carry-on. That happens to me all the time.
  • EMI/RFI noise filtering: I guess we really need this because it says so on the box.

Ours arrived here at Camp PlannerWire last week, and we have been putting it through the paces all over the office. We plugged stuff in; we charged up our tablets and our friends’ phones. We took it to the coffee shop, and we even took it to the Westin Chicago North Shore just to see if we, as superheroes, could blend in with all of the other business travelers while using this new addition to our superhero toolbelt. Yep… We blend. We even helped some dude charge his iPhone; he told us it was cool.
