Event Marketers are smart to use hashtags for their events but monitoring them can be a royal pain in the ass unless you use the right tool for the job. While there are a few good ones, I have recently started to use Tagboard to check in on some client events and it is a really great way to stay on top of the action and know what is going on with your social audience.
What is Tagboard
I am going to skip the “what is a hashtag” talk because I think that you have a handle on that (if you are new, go here for a great explanation). Instead, I am going to jump right into what is Tagboard.
I say:
Tagboard allows you to monitor a hashtag across multiple social networks including Twitter, Facebook, Google+, and Vine and see the results in a really cool way that is easy to follow, even for someone new to tracking hashtags.
They Say:
Tagboard is a software platform that uses the hashtag to aggregate social media for end-users, brands, agencies and marketers, displaying content from multiple networks in a comprehensive and engaging visual format. Tagboard’s turnkey solutions allow marketers to leverage powerful tools designed to filter positive influence, amplify engagement, and showcase branded experiences through social curation and integration. End-users can self-discover, interact with, and join the discussion all within a single, easy-to-use feed.
Using Tagboard for Conferences and Events
For the most basic use, just head over to the Tagboard homepage and enter your Hashtag. Here I am putting in Eventprofs….
Bam, up pops the hashtag results across all of those networks….. Pretty sharp I am thinking.
There’s More?
For many event planners and marketers, this is going to be all you need… Really, you don’t buy a nuke to go duck hunting and you don’t by a Ferrari to drive to the grocery store. Over “buying” with software is a really big problem, especially in the meetings and events industry. If this is all you need, this is all you need.
But…. if you are determined and actually do need more…. let’s say you want to create your own board that you can share, you want some analytics, you want… more…. that is easy too….
To create your own boards, simply sign in using Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram and then enter your email address. Once you are logged in, creating your own Tagboard is pretty easy, just follow their instructions…..
Even Morerer
If you are looking to do even more like adding customization, moderation, analytics, embedding, and even live streaming, they say you just have to ask. Really, I am not kidding, you have to email them and they can help you out with that.
Why Should You Follow Your Event Hashtag
Following your event hashtag is important because it allows you to feel the social pulse of your event. If something is going really well, you know. If something is going wrong, you know. If no one is talking about your event, you know…..
Knowing is half the battle blah, blah, blah. I am not going to go into this because Ostrich time is over. You need to know what attendees really think of your event and following the hashtag is just ONE of the ways.
