Embrace the Power of Video to Transform Conference Marketing from Fright to Flight

Video marketing matters for conferences and events. Those who do not understand this are either ill-informed, delusional, or recently hit in the head with something heavy, and we need to get them some medical assistance ASAP… Put down the mouse and call 911 before they start thinking that attendee registrations were better when they came via fax.

Knowing that video is perfect for marketing and doing it are two different things. Many event marketers are afraid of video. I get it. Many of our clients were worried, too, but they took their first steps and promptly fell flat on their video faces. The difference between their success and others’ failure is that they didn’t give up; together, we tried again. And again. And again. Practice makes perfect and all that jazz. You can do it too! Start with an iPhone; for heaven’s sake, it shoots in HD and sits in your pocket.

The cool folks over at Animoto (one of our favorite places to create cool client videos) put together a cheat sheet (now offline in 2023), which throws out a lot of scary numbers for those who think video is a waste of time. Like the stat that says 59% of consumers like to watch a product video before making a purchase (hint, your conference is your product) or that four times as many people would rather watch a video about a product than read about it (attention spans)… Frightening stuff if your organization is the one that refuses to catch the clue train…

For those of us who are ready to embrace video, the sky is the limit, and the ticket to the first flight is right in the palm of your hand… Get going. You can’t hit a home run if you never swing the bat. Check out this video for some great tips!
